FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Great West Coast Craic brings North America's West Coast Celtic rock bands together for the first time
Aberdeen, WA - January 16, 2010
Four of the most popular Celtic-influenced rock bands on the West coast, drawing from 3 states and 2 countries, will converge on March 6, 2010 to take part in the Great West Coast Craic making Aberdeen an epicenter of Celtic rock music. Not the Aberdeen in Scotland, as might be expected, but rather the quaint, historic logging town in Western Washington.
Craic (pronounced "crack") equates to fun or entertainment in Irish and the line-up promises ample amounts of both, featuring the perennial favorites: The Clumsy Lovers out of Vancouver, Culann's Hounds of San Francisco; Amadan from Portland; and Ockham's Razor from Seattle. The Great Northwest Craic promises to bring the vibrancy and vitality of traditional Irish and Scottish music mixed with the exhilarating pulse of modern rock and folk.
Most Celtic shows feature musicians performing songs in their traditional arrangements. The Great West Coast Craic was designed to feature those bands which take traditional Celtic music a step forward and blend the traditional spirit of Celtic music with a modern sound. Every band on the line-up has made a name for themselves as innovative, thought-provoking, craic-inducing artists, combining Celtic music with rock, punk, pop, and even gypsy tunes. All of the bands have become well known for their original material and their incredible live acts, weaving their creativity seamlessly with traditional songs.
The Clumsy Lovers have been recording and touring since 1993 and have raised the bar for every West Coast Irish rock band since. Culann's Hounds has carved out a niche as San Francisco's favorite Irish band and has recorded with Celtic music luminaries such as Susan McKeown and Conall O'Raghallaigh. Amadan has consistently pushed the envelope to developing a rock atmosphere for their music, amassing a hard core following for their raucous, energetic punk-influenced live shows. Finally, Ockham's Razor, lauded as Seattle's best Irish band, has spent the last three years cultivating a sound described as turbo-celtic ethno-punk, culminating in playing for Grammy and Academy Award winning ambassadors of Irish traditional music, the Chieftains.
The Great West Coast Craic will take place at the historic D&R Theatre in Aberdeen, WA (205 South I St.) and tickets are currently on sale at the official
Great West Coast Craic website (www.greatwestcoast.com), on each featured band's website, select ticket outlets and brownpapertickets.com.
The Great West Coast Craic will bring a unique and exciting evening of Celtic rock music from a fantastic group of musicians that the West Coast has never had the opportunity to enjoy in one place.
Bring on the Craic!
